Elevate humble radishes by pan-searing them in a rich, nutty brown butter infused with spicy chili flakes. This quick side dish offers a perfect balance of heat, richness, and a bright citrus finish.
In a small frying pan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the chili flakes and continue to cook until the butter begins to foam and develops a golden-brown color with a distinct nutty aroma.
Add the smashed radishes to the pan, tossing them thoroughly to coat in the chili butter. Sauté for 10-15 minutes, turning frequently, until the radishes have softened and are slightly caramelized.
Increase the heat to medium-high and pour in the fresh lemon juice. Allow it to sizzle for about a minute to glaze the radishes. Season with salt and pepper to taste and serve immediately.
To smash the radishes easily, place them on a cutting board and press down firmly with the flat side of a chef's knife. For a milder version, reduce the chili flakes to one teaspoon. This dish pairs beautifully with grilled meats or as part of a vegetarian spread.
