Enjoy perfectly golden and crispy homemade chips with a fraction of the oil used in traditional deep-frying. These air fryer chips are fluffy on the inside and crunchy on the outside, making them the ultimate guilt-free side dish.
Prepare the potatoes by peeling them and trimming away the rounded edges to create rectangular blocks for uniform cooking. Cut these blocks into even batons, aiming for a thickness between a French fry and a chunky chip.
If you prefer a rustic style, simply cut the unpeeled potatoes into chips without trimming. Rinse the cut chips thoroughly under cold water to remove excess starch, then pat them completely dry with a clean tea towel.
Place the chips into the air fryer. Add the sunflower or olive oil and toss well to ensure every chip is evenly coated.
Set the air fryer to cook for 30 minutes. If your model has a rotating paddle, use it; otherwise, shake the basket every 10 minutes to ensure even browning.
Check if the chips are tender and golden. If they need more time, cook for a further 5 minutes. Season generously with salt while hot and serve immediately.
For the crispiest results, soak the cut chips in cold water for 30 minutes before drying them. This removes even more starch. You can also add a pinch of smoked paprika or garlic powder at the end for extra flavor.
