Cool down with this quintessential British pub favorite, a crisp and refreshing blend of bitter beer and sparkling lemonade. It is the perfect low-alcohol beverage for summer afternoons and backyard barbecues.
Place one fresh lemon slice at the bottom of a tall, chilled drinking glass or a standard pint glass.
Pour the bitter beer into the glass, then top it with the lemonade. A 50/50 ratio is traditional, but you can adjust this to your taste.
Stir very gently with a long spoon to combine the flavors without dissipating the carbonation.
Make a small radial cut into a second lemon slice and slide it onto the rim of the glass for an elegant garnish. Serve immediately while ice-cold.
For the best flavor, ensure both the beer and the lemonade are thoroughly chilled before mixing. While 'bitter' is the traditional choice for a British shandy, you can also use a light lager or pilsner for a cleaner finish.
