Experience the vibrant orange hue and creamy sweetness of authentic Thai Iced Tea at home. This refreshing blend of spiced black tea and silky milk is the perfect companion for spicy dishes or a sunny afternoon.
In a large heatproof bowl or jug, combine the Thai tea leaves with 1.5 liters of boiling water. Whisk briefly to ensure all leaves are submerged, then let the tea steep for 8 to 10 minutes to develop a strong, deep flavor.
Prepare a large jug by placing a fine-mesh sieve over it, lined with a piece of muslin or a clean tea towel. Carefully pour the steeped tea through the sieve. Squeeze the muslin gently with tongs or a spoon to extract every bit of concentrated flavor, being careful as the liquid is very hot.
While the tea is still warm, whisk in the sweetened condensed milk and evaporated milk until the mixture is smooth and uniform.
Transfer the tea to the refrigerator and chill for at least 1 hour. To serve, fill tall glasses with plenty of ice, pour the chilled tea over the top, and enjoy with a straw.
For a more traditional presentation, pour the evaporated milk over the top of the tea just before serving to create a beautiful marbled effect. If you prefer a less sweet drink, reduce the amount of condensed milk and replace it with more evaporated milk or whole milk.
