A decadent, gooey chocolate pudding featuring tender ripe pears and a satisfying oat crunch. This easy-to-make dessert is the ultimate comfort food, perfect for a cozy family dinner or a special occasion.
Preheat your oven to 190°C (170°C fan/gas 5). Generously grease a 20cm baking dish with butter and set aside.
Place the dark chocolate and 180g of butter in a large heatproof bowl. Set the bowl over a pan of gently simmering water, ensuring the base of the bowl does not touch the water. Stir regularly until the mixture is completely melted and smooth.
Remove the bowl from the heat and whisk in the caster sugar. Set the mixture aside to cool for about 10 minutes.
Crack the eggs into the chocolate mixture one by one, whisking thoroughly after each addition until well combined.
Gently stir in the plain flour and approximately three-quarters of the porridge oats until just incorporated.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish. Nestle the pear halves on top of the batter, cut-side up, and scatter the remaining oats over the surface.
Bake for 25–30 minutes (if baking from chilled) or 35–40 minutes (if baking from frozen). The pudding is ready when the top and sides are set but the center remains gooey.
Remove from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes. Serve warm, ideally with a generous drizzle of double cream.
For the best results, use very ripe pears for natural sweetness. This pudding is excellent for meal prep; you can store it unbaked in the fridge for up to four days or freeze it for up to two months. If you prefer a nuttier texture, try lightly toasting the oats in a dry pan before adding them to the batter.
